Our 2023 tomato seedlings will be available June 3 at both the Summerside Farmers’ Market and our farm gate. As always we have a great selection of heirlooms that are adapted to our growing conditions on the Island, plus a few new varieties that we are trying this year. All varieties are open-pollinated and chemical-free.
There will also be a small selection of more mature tomato plants available that were started for early greenhouse production. Many of these extra tomatoes are varieties not offered as seedlings. Some are starting to flower now. $10 each.

VARIETIES

Aosta Valley
Early tomato with exceptional flavour from NW Italy. Prolific clusters of 10-12 small, shiny 5-sided tomatoes ripen on the vine so the truss can be picked all at once. Excellent fresh, stewed or added to sauce. Blight resistant.

Banana Cream
This heirloom gem bears dozens of unique 3-4" elongated, plum-shaped, striped yellow fruits with meaty flesh and pleasantly mild flavour. Great for salsa and salads. Productive bushy plants do not require staking, excellent in containers. Great for dehydrating.

Be My Baby
This productive tasty cherry is a cross between 3 favourite tomatoes: an heirloom potato leaf beefsteak and 2 cherries—one orange and one red. Delicious!

Beauty King
Medium-sized 10-12 oz. red slicer with vertical gold striping that has a delicious, well-balanced, rich flavour. This 3.5' - 4' dwarf needs staking.

Beaverlodge Slicer
Determinate. Early red 2" Canadian developed tomato are the first to ripen in your garden. Great tomatoey taste, unusual for an early tomato. Compact plants are loaded with smooth, blemish free fruit and are perfect for containers or hanging baskets. Does well in short season areas and in cooler coastal climates.

Black Prince
Juicy, sweet and prolific. Deep reddish-brown perfect fruit from Siberia.

Blush
Stunning and so sweet! 2” elongated golden-pink streaked tomato with crack resistance.Ripen on or off the vine without compromising flavour. A crowd pleaser for snacking or fancy dishes.

Brandywine
Famous 1885 heirloom produces huge 1 ½ lb. of the best tasting fruit of all. Potato-leaf variety with pumpkin-like ridges. Enjoy!

Buckflat’s Wonder
Canadian bred by Andy Pollock of Houston BC. Hardy, blemish free, red 8- 10 oz. perfectly round tomato with a fantastic flavour. Very productive until frost.

Confetti
Yellow beauty with pink stripes that has slightly flattened 6-8 oz. globe fruits with yellow/pink bi-coloured flesh and a sweet flavour with pizazz!

Costoluto Genovese
Beautiful, heavily-ribbed, red 4-5" fruits. Juicy, delicious and prolific!

Eden Star
Determinate, so good for container growing. Uniform round medium sized tasty tomato, which always does well.

Galina
Wonderful early Siberian heirloom producing heavy golden clusters of sweet fruit all season long. Good keeper and fruit doesn't drop from the vine when ripe.

Gilbertie
This excellent red heirloom has a long slender shape with green shoulders and slight crook at the tip. Good size with solid flesh and rich flavour with a very small seed cavity. Great for soups, sauces and grilling.

Harbinger
Old English variety, introduced in 1910. Extremely productive thin-skinned plants loaded with small to medium globe shaped red tomatoes with terrific taste. Tolerates cool weather.

House
This rare dwarf Russian heirloom grows 1 ½ ‘tall & is covered with tasty red cherries. Grow outside in a container for the summer & bring inside by a sunny window in the fall. Prolific producer year round. Cut back for new growth in the spring. The plants can grow for years this way!

Jaune Flamme
This rare French heirloom produces masses of large 2-3" orange cherries (or saladette tomatoes) in tresses of 6. Delicious fresh, as well as great for drying as flavour and colour intensifies

Legend
Determinate. Such a beauty and one of the earliest of all tomatoes! Dependable, productive and delicious 4-5" uniform red slicer. Strong tolerance against <strong>late blight</strong>. Very few seeds.

Malchik-S-Palchik (Tom Thumb)
Prolific, ultra-early Russian determinate tomato with tasty 2 oz. red fruit. Great for containers.

Minibel Naine pour Balcons
This very rare Quebecois miniature cherry came from Seeds of Diversity to rescue it from obscurity. Growing only 1‘ in height, does not stop this little workhorse from pumping out full-size cherries all season long. Excellent choice for containers.

Moskvich
This high quality Siberian heirloom is very early and cold-tolerant. Smooth and globe-shaped 4” deep-red fruit is a good keeper with luscious rich flavour and resistant to cracking. Good producer from early summer to frost.

Negro de Yeste
Spanish beauty with oval 1 oz. fruit with dark shoulders, meaty, firm (eat when crunchy but ripe). Wonderful!

Peacevine
Selected from Sweet 100 and is a rampant grower and producer with clusters of 1" fruits which are sweet tart rich flavour. Very high in vitamin C and GABA, a sedating antioxidant.

Pink Boar
Unique beauties. Wine coloured fruits with metallic green striping on vigorous vines. Strong plants loaded with rich, sweet, juicy fruits for slicing in salads. Adverse weather tolerance.

Pink Portuguese
The delicious large pink beefsteak beauty was found at the Portuguese market in Loule, Algarve in 2019 and had to bring some seed back to PEI. First time growing out the saved seed. Who would like to try it?

Pink Tiger
Artisan elongated pink cherry with yellow-orange striping. Excellent, balanced sweet and acidic flavour.

Roma
Probably the best known Italian paste tomato. 2-3" plum shape with thick flesh and few seeds. Vigorous, hardy, compact determinate vines. Firm, meaty, pear shaped fruit, up to 200 per plant, thus prolific and durable. Wilt resistant. Good for sauces, pastes and canning.

Rose de Berne
Swiss heirloom often called the “Brandywine of Europe”. Good producer of dark rose-coloured, perfect globe- shaped fruit, smooth, round with no blemishes. Thin-skinned, juicy with a zingy sweet rich flavour. Endangered.

San Marzano
Mid season. One of the most loved Italian paste tomatoes with great flavour and productivity on medium vines. Great for sauces, canning and drying/dehydrate.

Snowhite Cherry
A delicious light yellow to ivory cherry. Very productive with long vines. Produces all season until frost. A farm favourite.

Stefan's Gold
Polish RAF WWII bomber, Stefan Seczek, emigrated to Canada and settled in Hamilton, ON. In 1957, he was given seeds from a Polish co-worker and grew this tomato every year until he died in 2012. Vivid golden to orange colour with meaty texture and sweet taste. Medium size, performing well in cool wet conditions.

Striped Cavern
Beautiful 8 oz. thick-walled fruit. This partially hollow stuffing tomato is red with yellow stripes. Good keeper and drought tolerant. Great addition to any meal.

Sunrise Bumblebee
This bumblebee cherry is a round, golden-yellow streaked beauty with red stripes and pink interior marbling. Crack-resistant with excellent sweet and tangy flavour.

Sweet Orange II
High sugar levels in this large cherry. Abundant showy producer all season long.

Tastywine
Vigorous dwarf producing 6-12 oz. pink beefsteak-size fruit with very few seeds and deliciously sweet, juicy fruit.

Tigerella
This old English variety has little 4 oz. (2-2 ½") perfectly round red fruit with yellow-orange stripes, making this tomato a standout in a basket of tomatoes. Plants are extremely productive with rich tangy flavour over a long season.

Tropical Sunset
Beautiful to kook at and scrumptious to taste. This sweet fruity cherry is gold with orange-pink striping. Holds at the ripe stage for a long time.

Vince and Teresa
This big juicy red tomato was passed on to us at a Summerside Seedy Saturday, after being grown and saved as a favourite for many years by a Summerside couple. When you find just what you want in a tomato, save those seeds!

Violet Jasper
Our best discovery of 2019! Originally from China where it is called Tze Bi U. Beautiful and very productive, pumping out bushels until frost. Salad-sized fruit are the size of a lime with purple streaks and green stripes. Skin may be a little tough but that makes them great for grilling or the BBQ. Holds well.

West Virginia
Heirloom of great worth! Very rare 6-8 oz pinky-red, slightly flattened, meaty slicer with a delicious mild flavour. Shows good blight resistance.

Yellow Pear
18th century heirloom from Europe. These pretty lemon-yellow pear shaped tomatoes are very mildly flavoured and beautiful in salads. Children love them.

Yellow Perfection
This rare British heirloom is a bright yellow 2" salad tomato with great flavour. This dependable beauty starts early and continues until frost with heavy yields.
